Exposition in Lausanne

One of the comic artists I admire most, is the swiss Bernard Cosey. He is not only appreciated for his very human stories, but also for the use of colour in his comics. The Lausanne Library organised a colouring competition: participants were invited to put colours to a page for a new comic. The best would be exposed in a small exposition in Lausanne. Even if I didn't meet the qualifications (I am not a swiss resident), I decided to participate and made this page. Next to the competition, a few swiss artists were invited to make their page, making up a 'professionals section' in the exposition. The organisation decided to include my page in this section... so now I am in an exposition in Lausanne!

Eén van de striptekenaars die ik het meest bewonder is de Zwitser Bernard Cosey. Hij is niet alleen gewaardeerd vanwege zijn menselijke verhalen, maar ook vanwege het kleurgebruik in zijn strips. De bibliotheek van Lausanne organiseerde een kleurwedstrijd: deelnemers konden een pagina uit een nieuw album inkleuren. De beste inzendingen zouden worden tentoongesteld in Lausanne. Hoewel ik niet aan de kwalificaties voldeed (ik woon niet in Zwitserland), besloot ik toch mee te doen en maakte deze pagina. Naast de wedstrijddeelnemers, vroeg de organisatie ook een aantal Zwitserse stripmakers en kunstenaars om de pagina in te kleuren; deze kwamen terecht in een 'professionals'- gedeelte van de expositie. De organisatie besloot om mijn pagina daar onder te brengen... ik hang nu dus in een expositie in Lausanne!

A new Van Zanten comic for the economist magazine ESB. My translation: 1) VZ: I don't have money with me. Can you give me some? 2) Man: I want to point out that this is a loan. With other words: in the future, you will have to save money to pay it off. 3) Man: Moreover, you don't use this loan to invest, but for instant consumption. So, there is no potential for earning your money back. 4) VZ: Economically speaking, running away fast was the smartest thing to do.

Drawing for a movie

This is me at work in the studio of Full Frame, drawing for a small movie. It was a real challenge, because my drawing was recorded live. I had to make the drawings directly in marker.

Dit ben ik aan het werk in de studio van Full Frame, tekeningen  makend voor een kleine film. Een flinke uitdaging, omdat het tekenen live werd opgenomen. Ik moest de tekeningen rechtstreeks met een marker tekenen.
