Van Zanten

A new Van Zanten comic for the economist magazine ESB. My translation: 1) VZ: I don't have money with me. Can you give me some? 2) Man: I want to point out that this is a loan. With other words: in the future, you will have to save money to pay it off. 3) Man: Moreover, you don't use this loan to invest, but for instant consumption. So, there is no potential for earning your money back. 4) VZ: Economically speaking, running away fast was the smartest thing to do.

Tuinvogeltelling 2013

This weekend, the National Bird Protection is the Netherlands has its yearly bird count weekend. Everyone is asked to count the brids in their gardens for 30 minutes. The characters in this cartoon are some characters I am working on for a comic.

I am honoured to receive our prime minister in my last comic of 2012. I am afraid that this word joke cannot be translated...

Ik ben zeer vereerd om onze minister-president te mogen ontvangen in mijn laatste stripje van 2012.

Van Zanten

I haven't posted my Van Zanten comics (made for economist magazine ESB) for a while... The comic is about the problems that the pensions are cut and that an increasing number of people are stuck with a debt, even after 30 years of mortgage payments. My translation: 1) I have always regarded my mortgage and my pension as savings for my old days. 2) I have been paying for decades, and now, apparently, it has not been enough. 3) One lesson I have learnt: savings never made anyone rich. 4) A lottery ticket, please.

Ik heb al een poosje geen Van Zanten-strips geplaatst, die ik maak voor het economen-blad ESB. Deze strip stond bij een artikel over hypotheken en pensioenen.

Van Zanten

A Van Zanten comic for the economist magazine ESB. I think the subject is maybe too dutch, but I translate anyway: 1) Man: In this country, you are not allowed to earn some money! VZ: I didn't know that. 2) Man: I worked as a manager in public transport, home care, a hospital, a college and a housing corporation. And everywhere I had troubles with salaries, lease-cars and severance deals. 3) Man: And still, public affairs are so very dear to my heart. VZ: How can you carry on? 4) Simple enough: you get way better with stealing from many poor than with stealing from a few rich.

Election time

A comic I made two weeks ago about the upcoming election campaign in the Netherlands. This week the campaigns really started, so I am a bit late with this post... Anyhow, my translation: 1) Man with glasses: The elections are coming! I look forward to the debates already! Other man: Sure! 2) Other man: I can't wait for the calculations by the CPB (I have to explain this: the CPB - Central Plan Bureau - calculates the financial en economical consequences of the election programs of the different parties) Man with glasses: Oh yes! And the fine election evening! 3) Man with glasses: And after that a long and laborious cabinet formation... 4) VZ: I think I am going in hibernation very early this year...

Een Van Zanten over de verkiezingstijd - misschien net iets te laat omdat de campagne deze week losbarstte.
