Van Zanten

You may know that I make the Van Zanten comic for the dutch economic magazine ESB. In today's issue there is an article about 'life profit' of different generations since World War II. If you have a 'life profit', it means that a you will receive more money from government then you will pay during your lifetime. The article was in the news today because of its surprising conclusion that the babyboom generation is not the generation with the highest 'life profit' (if you were born before 1948, you even have a 'life loss'). Anyhow, this is my comic in the same issue - with some allusion to the generation topic.
My translation: 1) Wanna play cards, grandpa? VZ: First you have to pay your gambling debt! 2) I have calculated that my pocket money and my future study grant won't be sufficient to pay the interest on that debt. 3) I am in a greek situation. The options are: let me off or let's play for it. 4) You have to give the next generation a chance on a good start in life...

Zoals jullie misschien weten, maak ik mijn Van Zanten-strip voor het economenblad ESB. In het nummer dat vandaag verscheen, stond een artikel van het CPB over het 'levensprofijt' van verschillende na-oorlogse generaties. Als je 'levensprofijt' hebt, wil dat zeggen dat je gedurende je leven meer geld ontvangt van de overheid dan dat je aan de overheid betaalt. Het artikel haalde het nieuws vanwege de enigszins verrassende conclusie dat de babyboomgeneratie niet de generatie is met het hoogste 'levensprofijt' (als je voor 1948 bent geboren, heb je zelfs een negatief  'levensprofijt'). Hoe dan ook, dit is mijn strip in hetzelfde nummer van ESB - met een knipoog naar het generatie-onderwerp.
